Two Steps Forward, One Step Back

First, the one step back . . .

As a dissident, I find it flattering to know that there are people who are paid vastly larger salaries than my own in order to make my life harder. 

A case in point is Heidi Beirich of the Southern Poverty Law Center (which has $315,000,000 in the bank, because poverty is where the money is). For a couple of years now, Heidi has undertaken a letter-writing campaign to get Amazon.com to drop Counter-Currents from their Affiliate Marketing Program.

For those who don’t know, Amazon gives a commission to websites that link to them if people who follow the links purchase items during their visit. Over the past year, our Amazon Affiliate earnings have not been a huge sum in absolute terms, but in relative terms they were quite important, providing about 20% of the pittance that I live on.

Last week, Caitlin Dewey, a writer at The Washington Post, wrote an article about Heidi’s campaign, giving it a great deal of publicity, and not 48 hours later, Amazon canceled our affiliate account. The SPLC’s purpose, of course, is to put Counter-Currents out of business. (Ask yourself how you would fare with a 20% reduction in income.)

They have to silence us, of course, because they can’t answer us. As more people awaken to the fact that multiculturalism is a marriage made in hell [2], the SPLC and other organs of Jewish domination and anti-white genocide will only intensify their attempts to suppress freedom of speech and freedom of thought.

Fortunately, we still have enough freedom to turn things around, and I am going to show the way by turning this setback into an opportunity.

And now, the two steps forward . . .

First, in anticipation of harder times ahead, I decided to start our Summer Fundraiser early. So far, I have received 25 donations, ranging from $4 to $1,000, totaling $3,101.33. (The .33 comes from a symbolic $19.33 gift.) I want to thank all of our donors for this generous vote of confidence, which significantly cushions the blow.

It is particularly important that several donors are brand new to supporting Counter-Currents, and several have started monthly contributions. Long-term commitments from a growing donor base are what will sustain us.

But we are not out of the woods yet. The SPLC is also going after our PayPal account. And, of course, if they had their way, Amazon.com and other booksellers would not carry our titles either. So if you have not donated yet, please do so now, while you have the chance.

I am not going to call for a boycott of Amazon.com. I will still shop there myself. But the love is now tinged with bitterness.

Clearly someone who makes policy at Amazon.com thinks that your money is somehow tainted by association with Counter-Currents. Because Amazon won’t let you earmark 7% of your next purchase for Counter-Currents, why not just forego it altogether and send 100% of the price our way?

Second, as a result of the Post story, Counter-Currents has enjoyed a significant increase in web traffic. Interestingly enough, most of this traffic has not come directly from the links to Counter-Currents in the Post story. In fact, as of this writing, Counter-Currents has been visited only 105 times from links at the Post, and I myself am responsible for at least a couple of those clicks. I am sure some of my readers are as well.

Indeed, I would wager that more people have visited the Post from Counter-Currents than vice-versa. This seems clearly the case judging from the comments on the Post article.

I have noticed a similar phenomenon when Counter-Currents has been mentioned in other mainstream media outlets. My hypothesis is that typical consumers of the mainstream media are a smug and complacent lot who simply lack the intellectual curiosity to click a link and see what the fuss is all about.

By contrast, when a Counter-Currents article was linked in an American Renaissance interview with F. Roger Devlin, more than 1,000 people had the intellectual curiosity and initiative to click through to Counter-Currents. Which makes me wonder: now that we have an intellectually vital subculture and media outlets of our own, who needs the mainstream swill-mongers and their brain-dead consumers?

Yes, of course these people have money and power. The Washington Post, like the New York Times, is one of the papers of record for our ruling elite. But what a sorry lot they are: more middlebrow, dogmatic, brittle, censorious, hysterical, and just plain boring with each passing day.

The Left is intellectually bankrupt and morally repugnant. Thus the intellectually honest and daring are increasingly attracted to the Right. The Left may have lost its grip on reality long ago, but they retain a white-knuckle grip on power. As they are challenged, they are just going to get more repressive, until we depose them and give them a much-needed vacation.

So where are the new readers coming from? Apparently, from other quarters of the dissident Right. This should come as no surprise. The Right, both on and offline, is growing so fast and so vast that I long ago lost track of all the blogs, forums, podcasts, and groups. But whenever the SPLC or another anti-white hate group goes on the attack, their target will pop up on my radar. Somebody will mention it on Facebook or in a comment, I will click a link, and my world will suddenly get larger.

The same thing has happened to Counter-Currents because of the efforts of the SPLC and their shills at the Post. Counter-Currents now has a larger audience of people who are favorably disposed to our message. Which is a step forward, particularly when we get past what, in any case, can only be a temporary financial setback — a setback that you can whittle away at with a donation today.
