How Big is Our Movement?

Dear Friend of Counter-Currents:

November was a good month at Counter-Currents.

Since our last update, we received ten new donations totaling $370, for which we wish to thank each and every donor. That means that our total is $38,569.29, which means that we are now $11,430.71 away from our annual goal of $50,000.

$50,000 sounds like a lot, but I have been crunching some numbers to put it in perspective.

How big is the White Nationalist/New Right/racially-conscious community world-wide? Counter-Currents does not appeal to everyone in that community, but we do appeal to those who read English and are more intellectually and culturally inclined.

So how many people visit Counter-Currents?

In the last few months that I had access to usable web statistics, Counter-Currents had more than 80,000 unique visitors/month. Each of those months, we had about 50,000 return visitors, i.e., people who had come to Counter-Currents before. (The rest were first-time visitors, mostly from search engines.) So, if every regular Counter-Currents visitor chipped in $1/year, we would make our goal. Some readers donate much more than $1/year, and yet we are still far from our goal.

Of those 50,000 readers, how many of them are hard-core readers? If I define hard-core readers as those who read every article on the website, we have about 2,500 hard-core readers. So, if each of our hard-core readers chipped in $20/year, we would make our goal. Some of our hard-core readers donate much more than that, and yet we are still far from our goal.

Just for fun, I will define ultra hard-core Counter-Currents readers as those who will go so far as to listen to my lectures on Plato. That number hovers just over 1,000. For Plato! So, if each of our ultra hard-core readers chipped in $50/year, we would make our goal.

I also took five months of statistics and looked at readers and donors per country. Most of our readers are from the United States, but if you compare readership with population, the top countries in terms of Counter-Currents readers per capita are:

The vast majority of our donations also come from the United States, but in terms of dollars donated per capita, the top countries are:

It is interesting that the would-be North American New Right has such solid support in Scandinavia! (It is odd, too, that Denmark and Iceland are rather far from the rest of the Scandinavian countries.) I would love to hear your thoughts on the reasons for these numbers.

But as far as our fundraiser goes, the lessons here are clear enough.

First, if you are a Counter-Currents donor, be proud, because you are among a very small group of people.

Second, most regular Counter-Currents readers, even the hard-core ones, even the ultra hard-core ones, are merely here to consume free information from the internet. If this is your policy, I am sure you are thinking that you can afford to do it, because other people will pick up the slack. Well, unfortunately, a lot of other people think the same way, and it is leading to consequences that none of you want. So make this your day to get off the bench and into the game. Because, given the odds so far, other people will not do it for you.

To help Counter-Currents, you can make two different types of donations:

Recurring donations are particularly helpful, since they allow us better to predict and plan for the future. We have added several new levels for recurring donations. Please visit our Donations [4] page for more information.

We can also customize the amount of a monthly donation.

There are several ways to make one-time donations:

Please give generously!

Thank you for your loyal readership and support.
