I guess at around 2:10 he decides to forever reject black metal with the help of his spiritual mentor Weird Al.
That’s good Izak; ” Spiritual mentor Weird Al”. Those poor middle class white men following Weird Al. It could be worse. Tiny Tim tiptoeing through the tulips.
Pourquoi?
From Wagner to BF5? We’ll remain rattled unless Johnny Rebel is next.
In his “Metahistory”, Hayden White writes: “[Irony] represents a state of concsiousness in which the problematical nature of language itself has become recognized. It points to the potential foolishness of all linguistic characterizations of reality as much as to the absurdity of the beliefs it parodies”. I’m afraid that, even if Ben Folds is not being self-consciously ironic–which seems unlikely since it is virtually impossible for Americans his age to transcend irony– this will be seen as ironic. But then again, how can we tell anymore? Perhaps I’m falling victim to irony in my inability to see this as a simple suburban white boy summer ditty. Another triumph of the Left, I guess. Thanks a lot, Gramsci. One thing I do know: it ain’t no Tristan.
